"Pinki's" real name is Shakuntala.  But since that is also the name of a Hindu diety, we call her by her nickname.  Pinki is only six years old.

     Pinki's father was run over and killed by a train while he was trying to cross the track.  Her mother was unable to support her.  That is why she came to the Love God Home.

     Pinki loves to draw and color with crayons.  While we were visiting she taught us how to say the names of crayon colors in Hindi.

     Pinki attends Marathi first grade*.  When we asked the children what they would like become when they grow up, Pinki said "a missionary."

* In India there are 10 grades in the public school system.  In Maharashtra both Hindi and Marathi are spoken more commonly than English.  The public schools use the Marathi language.
